Nestled in the tranquil hills of the Algarve, Songbird Amphitheater is a unique open-air venue where music, nature, and community come together. Surrounded by cypress trees and wide-open skies, it offers an intimate and authentic setting to experience live performances in harmony with the landscape.

Each summer, we host a carefully curated concert series bringing together talented local and international musicians. From soulful jazz to vibrant blues and world music, every evening at Songbird is more than just a concert—it’s a shared experience.

Full Moon Rise Concert :

time & sound

September 27 (Sunday) — DOORS OPEN 6:00 PM - CONCERT START 7:15 PM

On Sunday, September 27, join us at Songbird Amphitheater for a very special Full Moon Rise evening with harpist Danielle Riegel, presenting a concert that takes us on a musical journey through centuries, styles and countries — from the Baroque to the music of today.

For a few selected pieces, Danielle will be joined by special guest artist Jan Pipal, violinist with Orquestra do Algarve, bringing the beautiful combination of harp and violin into the evening.

The journey begins with the timeless elegance of Johann Sebastian Bach, followed by Johann Pachelbel, where harp and violin meet for the first time.

From there, Danielle travels into the dreamy, impressionistic worlds of Claude Debussy, including his beloved Clair de Lune, and Erik Satie, before moving into the evocative music of Ludovico Einaudi, one of the world’s most celebrated contemporary composers. Jan returns to join her for Einaudi’s popular piece Experience.

The journey then moves beyond the classical repertoire, with Danielle bringing her own harp interpretations to familiar music — including Frank Sinatra’s iconic Fly Me to the Moon — with a few musical surprises along the way.

With the delicate voice of the harp, the expressive sound of the violin and the Algarve landscape slowly turning from daylight into night, this promises to be an intimate and unforgettable evening.

🎶 My Favorite Songs Across the Atlantic

Some instruments whisper… others tell stories that travel across oceans.

At the Songbird Amphitheater in Querença, we invite you to a very special evening with Gonçalo Sousa, internationally recognized as one of the leading harmonica players in the world today. With extraordinary sensitivity and virtuosity, Gonçalo expands the boundaries of the harmonica far beyond expectations.

In this unique concert titled “My Favorite Songs Across the Atlantic”, Gonçalo takes you on a musical journey connecting continents and cultures. Together with the expressive Fernando Tavares Jazz Trio, the ensemble explores a rich repertoire inspired by the sounds of South America—woven with influences from jazz, blues, fado, classical, and world music.

As summer slowly ripens in the Algarve hills, you are warmly invited to an evening of music beneath the open sky.

Our Full Moon Rise Concert follows the natural rhythm of the evening itself: sunset, twilight, music, moonrise, and the quiet magic that unfolds between them.

The concert begins at 7:00 PM with a solo performance by NUJUM, whose music weaves together influences from many cultures and traditions into spacious, contemplative soundscapes. As daylight softens and the landscape settles into evening, the music invites us into a state of listening, presence, and wonder.

At 8:00 PM we will pause for a sunset intermission on the Terraço do Barco rooftop. From this unique vantage point, we will watch the sun descend behind the dramatic limestone ridge of Rocha da Pena — often called the "Table Mountain of the Algarve" — while enjoying refreshments, conversation, and sweeping views across the surrounding countryside.

At 8:30 PM the second half begins, featuring the beautiful harp of Danielle Riegel in collaboration with NUJUM. Together they will guide us through the deepening twilight as the eastern horizon slowly darkens and anticipation builds for the moonrise.

If nature follows her schedule, the full moon will appear near the end of the performance, rising above the softly rolling mountains east of the Songbird Amphitheater. As its silver light climbs over the ridge and illuminates the landscape, music, moonlight, and place will come together in one final moment of the evening. We therefore expect the gathering to continue until at least 10:00 PM.

This is not simply a concert, but an invitation to slow down, to gather in community, and to experience music in dialogue with the rhythms of the natural world.

As with all our gatherings, this is a potluck-style evening. Please bring a small dish to share and/or something to drink. Sharing food and conversation is part of what makes these evenings so special.

From Seville to the Algarve – A Latin Summer Night at the Songbird Amphitheater

On the first evening of August, I am delighted to welcome back the wonderful Spanish singer Marta Santamaría from Seville, together with the exceptional Fernando Tavares Jazz Trio, for another unforgettable summer concert at the Songbird Amphitheater.

Marta's warm, expressive voice effortlessly travels between jazz, samba, salsa, flamenco, bossa nova, and the colourful musical traditions of Latin America. Accompanied by the elegant musicianship of Fernando Tavares and his trio, every performance becomes a vibrant conversation between cultures, rhythms, and emotions.

As the evening unfolds, the Songbird Amphitheater once again becomes much more than an outdoor concert venue. Nestled among the rolling hills near Querença, surrounded by nature and birdsong, it offers an intimate space where music and landscape seem to become one.

As the sun slowly descends behind the majestic limestone plateau of Rocha da Pena—often called the "Table Mountain of the Algarve"—we pause for our traditional sunset intermission on the Terraço do Barco rooftop. With a glass of wine in hand, panoramic views stretching across the Algarve countryside, and good conversation among friends, this moment has become one of the most cherished traditions of our concert evenings.

As twilight settles over the hills, the musicians return for the second half, filling the amphitheater with the warmth, colour, and infectious rhythms of Latin music until the evening gently draws to a close around 10:00 PM.

A Journey Through Time & Sound — Danielle Riegel, Harp

There are evenings when music, nature and people come together in a way that is difficult to describe — and this promises to be one of them.

We invite you to join us for a very special Full Moon Rise evening at Songbird, where the music of the harp will take us on a journey across centuries, countries and musical styles, while the Algarve landscape slowly transforms from daylight into night.

🌅 An evening that unfolds

6:00 PM — Doors open

From 6:00 PM onwards, we welcome everyone at the Adega do Barco for a relaxed coming together with wine, water and little nibbles.

It is a chance to meet, reconnect, make new friends and simply enjoy being together before the music begins.

From the rooftop terrace of the Boathouse, you can also watch the beautiful Algarve sunset and see the landscape slowly changing as the day comes to an end.

7:15 PM — The Boathouse Bell

This is our signal to leave the Adega and make the short walk across to the other side of Casa Bela Vista, where the Songbird Amphitheater awaits.

🎵 A Journey Through Time & Sound

At 7:15 PM, Danielle Riegel will take us on a musical journey through centuries, countries and styles — all through the beautiful sound of the harp.

We begin in Baroque Germany with Johann Sebastian Bach, before travelling to the colours and atmosphere of impressionistic France with Claude Debussy and Erik Satie.

From there, the journey moves into the contemporary sound world of Italy with Ludovico Einaudi, before crossing the ocean to Australia and the atmospheric, subtly jazz-influenced music of Sophie Hutchings.

And then the journey brings us right into the present, with unexpected harp interpretations of contemporary songs by artists such as Frank Sinatra and Bobby McFerrin — and perhaps even a playful looped finale.

🌕 And then the Moon rises...

While Danielle's music fills the intimate Songbird space, we expect the almost Full Moon to rise at around 7:45 PM, slowly appearing above the rolling hills opposite the amphitheater.

The delicate sound of the harp, the evening sky, the surrounding landscape and the rising Moon will create a magical resonance between music and nature.

This is exactly what Songbird was created for: moments where you don't simply listen to music, but experience it as part of the landscape around you. 🌿🎵🌕

Everyone is welcome to bring something small to share — homemade, local or simply something you enjoy. It isn't about making something perfect. It's about sharing, generosity and coming together.

🎵 Algarve Music Series — Duo Kontrast

On Sunday, October 4, 2026, the Songbird Amphitheater Algarve at Casa Bela Vista, Querença welcomes the Algarve Music Series for a very special evening with Duo Kontrast — Sérgio Gladkyy on accordion and Diogo Pardal on clarinet.

Their programme takes us from Piazzolla and Debussy to Bartók, Gershwin and Béla Kovács, creating a fascinating blend of classical music, tango, folk and jazz influences.

Especially for this intimate Songbird setting, the music will be performed without PA amplification, allowing the natural sound of accordion and clarinet to resonate directly through the landscape. 🌿🎵
